Chapter 6

"Professor...you can't be serious?" Scott said. He looked at Naomi, slightly concerned that he may have offended her. She showed no signs on her face. She merely looked at him, a sweet smile on her face. "No offense...it's just that our last little addition, well it wasn't the smoothest adjustment," Scott's gaze drifted towards Logan. Logan sat there, the urge to run his claws through Scott's face was becoming increasingly difficult to supress. Naomi's eyes fell upon Logan.

She was most intrigued by him. She hadn't had a chance to speak with him since she had awakened and she found herself disappointed by that. This man has saved her life and yet he looked as though he would have left her there to die. Naomi knew that what she saw was certainly not what she got with him. He was rough and rugged and yet there was kindness about him. She could sense it even though he tried to hide it from the world. Behind those dark eyes that could see into the souls of anyone, there was a loss of innocense, stolen away. A tortured being who's only friends were loneliness and the night. Naomi found herself wondering what it was that made him retreat into himself, although after momentarily scanning her mind, she had some idea.

"Naomi, you would..." Professor Xavier started.

"Of course, Professor," Naomi cut in. She stood up from leaning against the professor's desk, straightening her sleek black skirt, Naomi bowed her head to the Professor. "Excuse me," She said politely and strode out of the room, shutting the door behind her.

"Scott, that was uncalled for," Jean said, her hand on his arm.

"Yea smooth move, Preppy," Wolverine snorted.

"Look, I didn't mean to offend her or anything. But as leader, I'm keeping in mind what's best for the team and we barely even know her. We have no idea the true exstent of her powers. Or how well she can control them. Just because she can project some holographs inside a room doesn't mean she'll be able to control them in a real fight. And I'm not willing to take a risk like that and get us all killed," Scott said defending himself and his words.

"I understand your concerns, Scott. And yes, we do not know just how powerful she really is. But I believe she could be a vital asset to the team. And she's more than willing to learn and to train. With her ability we have a much better chance to fight without being found out and involving innocent people," Charles argued back.

"That may be true, but like Jean said, she could be as powerful as you are. And just letting her jump in without proving to us that she can be a beneficial to this team," Scott replied.

"As relevant as both of these arguements are, this is getting us nowhere," Storm spoke suddenly. "And Professor, I understand that this seems exciting, but I must agree with Scott. Let her train with us, train with you some more, let her teach a class if you must but I think we all need to spend more time with her before we can consider her apart of this team. A mere demonstration is nowhere near sufficent enough for us to allow her to fight with us,"

The Professor sighed heavily. "I see. Well then I must respect your wishes for I'm obviously out numbered," He said. "Alright, I'll continue working with her, but I need all of you to keep an open mind then. She's an asset to us, with that sort of power, I may be able to help her evolve with it. The possibilities are limitless and we should be thankful we found her before some one else had," Professor Xavier relinquished. He looked at Logan quickly, while continuing his talking to the others.

"Logan, go be with our guest. I think she could use the company," The Professor's voice sounded in Logan's head. He looked at the Professor who nodded. Scott, Jean and Storm all continued exchanging banter over the situation of their new guest. Logan got up and as silently as he could managed and slid out of the door, happy that he was granted permission to leave. There arguement on whether Naomi could be trusted to become a member of the team was of no concern of his. He barely considered himself one of the team as it was.

He set forth to find the strange woman who he found captivating despite the fact her knew very little about her. Classes seemed to be done for the day and inside of the mansion, the halls were quiet as some students sat in lounges, studying for tests. Outside, the laughter of children could be clearly heard. It was still quite warm out and with the warm weather to be leaving that part of New York soon, the youngsters did they best they could to take advantage of it. It was mere moments before her soft scent filled his nostrils, sometimes he loved having a keen sense of smell, and her smell was quickly becoming a favorite of his. Now Logan was not one to quickly fall for some one, Jean excluded, but he knew how to appreciate a lady and Naomi was a lady who demanded appreciation. Her scent led him outside, where he spotted the blond sitting on stone steps with one of the school's younger students. Logan froze a moment, not wanting to impose on their conversation, so he simply stood, listening intently.

"Hi," Naomi said to the tiny blond girl. The girl looked up at her with piercing red eyes.

"Hi," She replied shyly. Aside from her eyes, Naomi could see nothing mutant about her. The girl could not be any older than 10 and here she sat on the concrete steps of the school, on this beautiful day, with a book in her hands.

"What's your name?" Naomi asked her.

"Kristy," The fiery eyed girl said. "What's your name?"

"Naomi," The elder replied. "What are you reading?" She questioned, looking at the young girl's book.

"Cinderella," The child replied, opening the pages to show Naomi a picture of Cinderella and Prince Charming dancing at the ball.

"How romantic," Naomi nodded at the picture. She and the girl were both quiet for a moment. "Would you like to see a trick?" Naomi asked her. The tiny blond nodded her head vigorously. "Alright, all you have to do is close your eyes, hold out your hands and think about Cinderella and her Prince. Can you do that?" Again the girl nodded. She closed her eyes and held her hands, cupped out towards Naomi.

Logan continued to watch, already well aware what she was about to do. It was sweet in fact that she was taking the time to make this young girl happy. Maybe the Professor should allow her to teach. She appeared to be good with kids.

Naomi concentrated on the girl's hands. An image started to fade into view. "Alright, open your eyes," Naomi said softly. The little girl opened her eyes, gasping slightly at what she saw. The Prince and Cinderella danced around in her hands. The couple waltzed over her small fingers, the girl's look of amazement became sheer delight as they stopped and bowed towards her. She let out a little giggle. Naomi smiled as she watched the girl.

"Kristy! There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you! I found this box of chocolate pudding, I thought Michele could..." A young brown haired girl came running over, clutching a box of pudding in her hands. She stopped suddenly, staring at the image in her friend's hand. "Whoa! Did you do that?" She questioned.

"I didn't. Naomi did," The girl replied, signalling to Naomi with her head. Her eyes never leaving her palms as the couple continued waltzing.

The little brunette looked at Naomi. "Hi! I'm Samantha," She said offering her hand to Naomi.

The older girl shook her hand, smiling. "Naomi. Pleasure to meet you," She said.

Samantha looked back at Kristy. "C'mon! Chocolate puuudding!" She said waving the box around. The little girl looked at her friend and nodded. Reluctantly, she slow closed her hands and dancing Prince and Princess were erased from existance. She looked at Naomi and smiled sheepishly. Naomi smiled back. The brunette interrupted the moment by a rumbling sound in her stomach. Naomi looked over at her and suddenly a roaring burp errupted from the small girl, firey flames shot from the girl's mouth. Startled, Naomi nearly fell backwards as the flames stretch infront of her.

Smoking, as her burp ended, the young girl grinned. "Excuse me," She said shyly. She looked at her friend who laughed. Saying goodbye to Naomi, the two children wondered off together to get their pudding made.
